MusicMaster and mAirListDB Synchronization via Files

This tutorial explains how to set up synchronization between mAirListDB and MusicMaster via files. This is the traditional approach using text files for the three syncronization tasks:

  • Library sychronization (mAirListDB to MusicMaster): CSV files
  • Schedule export (MusicMaster to mAirListDB): TPI files
  • Reconciliation (mAirList playout to MusicMaster): text files

Prerequisites

We assume that you have the following available and set up:

  • mAirListDB, with audio items in the library, and Hour Templates set up. (You can create Music Templates that use the internal scheduler for testing, and then switch to MusicMaster import.)
  • MusicMaster (an edition that supports library sync and schedule export)

MusicMaster requires that you use a fixed set of folders (and possibly file names) for the synchronization tasks. In our example, we use the following three folders:

  • C:\MM_Sync\Library
  • C:\MM_Sync\Schedule
  • C:\MM_Sync\Reconciliation

Please create these folders before you continue with this tutorial.

Library Synchronization

This section is about library synchronization, e.g. automatically adding songs from mAirListDB to MusicMaster. (We assume that you add all songs in mAirListDB first, then use this synchronization method in order to add them to MusicMaster.)

Export from mAirListDB

The first step is to export the mAirListDB library, or part of it, as a CSV file.

To create the file, use one of the commands in the mAirListDB app main menu under Database → Export. You can export the entire library, only the current view (folder, item type filter, etc.), or the current selection.

We use the mAirListDB Library CSV Import/Export format, so make sure that you choose “CSV file” as the file type. (There are other formats that use the .csv extensions as well, but “CSV file” is the correct one, should be at the top of the list.)

MusicMaster requires that you use a fixed name for the CSV file. In our example, we use C:\MM_Sync\Library\LibraryExport.csv – make sure you overwrite this file every time you make a new export.
